Abstract

This is part of a case series. The case describes the main events at Lesney Products between 1972 and 1982 when the company was placed in the hands of the receiver. It can be used after Lesney Products and Company Limited (B), to discuss the main areas of strategic action taken by the company following the problem experienced in the 1970-1971 period. Several stages are described, including: (1) recovery through internal product development and vertical integration; (2) growth; (3) diversification and acquisition; (4) financial collapse; and (5) 'terminal' management.
