Abstract

The material concerns the appeal against dismissal of a supervisor for a serious breach of company regulations. Part 1 can be used separately from Part 2 (383-121-1) and Part 3 (383-122-1). It can be used simply to generate discussion of the issues involved in discipline and dismissal policy and procedure or as the basis for a role play exercise in negotiation. It can also be used effectively as an illustration of the special considerations when deciding on "reasonableness" in dismissing managers as distinct from other staff.
