Abstract
An attempt to pull round an ailing company by the introduction of a new product failed, partly by reason of reluctance to take risks. A new managing director was appointed, and his attack on a rapidly deteriorating situation was aimed at improving company morale, formulating a realistic set of strategies, creating a more responsive organisation, and developing three new products in one of the important divisions. Under the guidance of the managing director the company ethos was improved, but the target dates for the new products were not achieved.
