Abstract
The case describes a medium sized Finnish manufacturer of skis who is in the process of changing from wood to fibre technology. The situation is such that 'know-how' in the area is regarded as so precious that the 'old hands' and the woodworking machinery should continue to be employed by the firm. Therefore, the question is how and where to find new wood products with a high probability of success in the market place.
