Abstract

The case is concerned with a small shop in suburban Sheffield which sells wholefoods (nuts, grain, beans, flour etc) to the general public. The shop is run on a cooperative basis by 5 ex University students and the case study provides information on the way the ideals and philosophy of the members influence the running of the cooperative. In detail this covers their approach to product selection, pricing, wage payment, customer relations, promotion, financial objectives and many other aspects of the business. The case is set in 1978 but also gives a brief history of the organisation since its foundation in 1973.
