Abstract

This is a continuation of case (A) and describes the development after the strategic decision in May 1970. The redesigning of the radiosonde family during three years produces an invention - the Humicap, a humidity sensor, which is based on the thin film technology of the integrated circuit manufacturers. Built into a general purpose meter of relative humidity, the Humicap becomes a success due to its speed and accuracy. The New Product Committee (NPC) at Vaisala gets an assignment to consider ways to exploit the technological innovation that turned out to have a big spinoff in the markets outside meteorology, which was Vaisala's traditional territory.
