Abstract

The case describes the present operations of this small company which fabricates and erects steel framed buildings. Brief historial notes are included which trace the origin and development of the company and an account is given by one of the directors of a cash flow crisis which affected the company in 1974. The issues in the case revolve around the need to expand turnover, based on an analysis of the company''s present and potential markets. The case has been used with final year undergraduates in Building, both as a basis for class discussion of the market for construction work and the problems of small firms, and also as a group project exercise, in collaboration with the company.
