Abstract
A young nursing officer, June Carton, returns to her office after lecturing to a group of students to find a note on her desk from a senior member of staff accusing her of "stealing" her lecturer. There have been several previous incidents but Mrs. Carton has always been the loser. On making inquiries she finds that the problem is one of long standing and that her colleagues think that any attempt to resolve it will only make matters worse. The lecturers who fail to attend are invariably doctors, and relationships between tutorial and medical staff are strained. Although all the tutors grumble about this defaulting, no one has found out the extent of the problem or the way in which defaults are distributed among medical staff. A solution is required which takes account of these aspects, and which preserves the professional independence of each tutor and her links with specialist medical lecturers.
