Abstract

The Crucible Theatre is a new theatre, opened in 1971, but housing an established theatre company. The major uses of the case study would be in the area of Corporate Policy. In particular the special nature of subsidised theatre (being neither wholly commercial nor wholly public service) lends itself to the investigation of several corporate issues which are often not so clear in private companies. A large proportion of the material concerns the period 1971-1976 when the theatre was attempting to establish itself in an uncertain environment.
