Abstract
The case describes the thoughts and actions of Mancroft Engineering''s managing director in closing his company down. The company is a subsidiary of a major UK manufacturing group to whom it has been a supplier of process machinery, but the demand for new process machinery has slumped due to overcapacity in the industry. The case may be issued in two parts. After reading the introduction (pp 1-2) students may be asked what actions they would need to take as M.D. following the decision to close and what problems they would expect to meet in implementing the decision. They may then read the remainder of the case and discuss the actions actually taken in relation to their own predictions and recommendations.
