Abstract

This disguised case, based on experiences at a major utility, offers insight into the implementation and evolution of a shared service organization. Initially developed for a custom executive education program, it examines an increasingly popular organizational model that balances the efficiency of centralized services with the accountability of decentralization. Although the case may not fit readily into a single academic discipline, it covers a current executive issue and thus fills a need in both MBA and executive education.
