Abstract
This sequential case series (473-185-1 to 473-187-1) describes some of the problems faced by a newly appointed Principal whose predecessor had adopted an autocratic style to which college staff had become accustomed. Part 1 describes three heads of department who were respectively overworked, a textbook manager, and irrational in behaviour. Part 2 shows how the Principal handled these problems. This case may be used to illustrate the management of change, especially in relation to management style, and developing the individual to fit the organisation.
