Abstract
This study indicates the disparities occurring in a hospital system due to the various hierarchies existing. ''Vertical'' teaching sessions allowed participants to appreciate problems existing at all levels and how to become more cost effective. Ward sisters became managers. Case materials used as illustration of the importance of understanding management fundamentals at all operating levels.
