Abstract

The case describes an investigation into the location of service depots in a water undertaking. The Assistant Chief Engineer has made out a financial case for reducing from seven depots to three. The OR Manager must now estimate how many men will be needed at the three depots to maintain the present level of service. The material has been used as a case study both for written analysis and as a basis for discussion. The student is expected to describe how simulation could be used to solve the problem, explaining the assumptions which must be made and the problems which are likely to arise.
