Abstract

This is part of a case series. An organisation purchases a computer to implement 'a total management information system'. The first attempt fails and the second, with severely modified objectives, is only partially successful. Some managers argue that the computer should be disposed of. Questions posed relate to organisational arrangements, and obtaining management acceptance to give impetus to the development of a computer system. All three cases have been used as a basis for discussing the control of data processing.
