Abstract
This background note is to accompany the case series 'Lesney Products & Company Limited'. This note describes the structure of the UK toy industry in the latter half of the 1960s. Details of the major companies are given together with a discussion of product types, sources of innovation, marketing approaches, distribution channels and manufacturing processes. The note considers the impact of US toy manufacturers on the UK industry and raises a number of future problem issues.
