Abstract
A description of events at ''St. Rhodegunds'' College of Education arising out of disagreement over a student''s grades for teaching practice. The disagreement was symptomatic of an underlying conflict of value systems held by members of the academic staff, over which the Principal refused to arbitrate. By his adroit manoeuvres, the issue is resolved in favour of a member of staff who subsequently applies for a post as head of department elsewhere. The Principal of ''St.Rhodegunds'' is asked to report on his suitability for this post. This case may be used to provoke an examination of educational values, professional conduct and management styles.
