Abstract
The recently appointed Matron at ''St. Piran''s'' Hospital is concerned about the low morale in the psychiatric assessment department under the control of a ward sister who reports to an administrative sister. Accordingly she appoints a new departmental sister whose rank is intermediate between the ward and the administration. This case may be used to provoke an examination of organisation structures and concepts of authority and responsibility.
