Abstract
This case concerns a ward under the control of a sister assisted by one full-time and one part-time staff nurse. The full-time nurse is very competent and a capable second-in-command. Before her days off the sister gives detailed instructions to the staff nurse but finds on her return that plans have been changed in her absence. The case may be used to provoke a discussion of concepts of delegation and responsibility.
