Two recent books, Thomas Malone''s The Future of Work: How the New Order of Business Will Shape Your Organization, Your Management Style, and Your Life and Shoshana Zuboff and James Maximin''s The Support Economy: Why Corporations Are Failing Individuals and the Next Episode of Capitalism, examine the shifting economics upon which the modern corporation is based and conclude that the era of managerial capitalism is drawing to a close. The books agree that the changes that lie ahead represent enormous possibilities, but they differ on the extent to which organizations must reinvent themselves.
