Abstract

In the last issue of BSR, we explained how organizations use strategic themes to align decentralized units with corporate-level strategies. However, for some strategies, simply aligning individual organizational units is insufficient. These strategies require that autonomous units actively coordinate and cooperate with one another for the strategy to be successfully implemented. In today''s environment, where problems are complex and usually require multiple disciplines and organizational units for their solution, the Balanced Scorecard and strategy maps provide a powerful way for public and private sector organizations to formulate comprehensive, integrated solutions.
