Abstract

The U.S. healthcare system is in crisis: overall hospital debt recently hit $85 billion, income is shrinking, and nurses are exiting in droves. With limited resources, it''s no surprise that many healthcare institutions are crumbling under these strains. But the prognosis isn''t all bleak. As some hospitals have already discovered, the BSC can help resolve the often conflicting imperatives of controlling costs and improving care--and put hospitals back on the road to health.
