Abstract

For many speakers, the most frightening part of the presentation is the question and answer period at the end. While some thrive on the improvisatory challenge, others fear the nightmare possibilities. The most important thing to remember is that presentations belong to their audiences. A successful Q&A session depends on good listening, a multi- level process which includes feedback, paraphrasing, clarification, empathy, and active listening. This article includes a sidebar entitled "Are you a good listener?"
