Abstract

Meetings consume a great deal of most managers'' workdays and generally have a bad reputation for being inefficient time wasters. But as companies move away from hierarchical forms of management and rely more and more on the work of teams, meetings are essential to the decision- making process. What is needed is an updated view of meetings and a restructured process for determining which meetings are necessary and how they should be conducted. The author discusses seven of the most common meeting pitfalls and offers advice on how to avoid them. Also includes a sidebar on tips for meeting preparation.
