A brief history of foreign direct investment (FDI) is put forth, with emphasis on conflicts, accompanied by developments in the legal framework governing FDI, as well as international agreements and nonbinding principles formulated to resolve disputes brought in by FDI. Propositions provide a context from which core issues may be discussed by the students.; To explore the reasons for international conflict over foreign direct investment and the opportunities for international agreements to manage these conflicts.
