Abstract

The author, an executive with a ten-year history of career success, says that his impressive resume conceals a difficult leadership education. In each of his jobs, he overlooked some vital part of the organizational community. He has learned now to abandon confrontational management in favor of management by focusing on a company''s own history, values, and competence. Now he owns and runs the remnant of a once-great international company and means to base another business turnaround on the lessons he has learned.
