Abstract
The psychological phenomenon of folie a deux involves the sharing of a delusional system by two or more individuals. Eccentric leadership styles may be best understood in the context of this psychological process. Frustrated dependency needs are the core of the folie a deux relationship. When folie a deux occurs in organizations, conflict becomes stifling, creativity is discouraged and distrust becomes the prevailing attitude. Managers prohibit the development of these patterns by recognizing the described individual and organizational systems.
