Abstract

Current advances in management science stress improved analytical and administrative tools. But these alone will not be enough for survival in the future, because they are geared primarily to improve the efficiency of present operations. The new business leaders will be those who can stretch their minds beyond the management of physical resources. They will have the capacity to conceptualize broad new philosophies of business, and translate their vision into operations. To the traditional skills of managing people, material, machines, and money, they will add a challenging new skill--managing ideas.
