Abstract

This is a Spanish translation of case ''502-027-1''. This case deals with a well-known, international not-for-profit organisation, which is developing a comprehensive strategy for the use of the Internet within its organisation. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is embarking on a new era in marketing and communications of the Olympic Games. Due to the short time between the Sydney and Salt Lake Olympic Games, the focus of this case is on the long-term Internet strategy which would be in place by the time of the 2004 Games in Athens, Greece. These Games will be the first for which the IOC has an opportunity to take more control and actually direct the future of Olympic Internet rights. The case provides a comprehensive look at the Games, revenue sources for the Games, the organisation structure of the Olympic movement, marketing and communications functions within the IOC''s professional staff. This case was sponsored by the Indiana University CIBER Case Collection.
