Abstract
Apollo Group (Apollo), a US-based for-profit education company, provided higher education programmes tailor-made for working adults. The group, with its four subsidiaries, successfully established itself as a highly profitable post-secondary education company. By focusing on the needs of working adult students, treating students as customers and meeting the changing market needs by providing on-line courses, Apollo became the largest private university in the US. The case helps to discuss how Apollo built a billion-dollar business by carving a niche for itself in the working adult students education market, which for a long time had remained unattended by the traditional universities.
