Abstract
US-based Wachovia Corporation had expanded its operations through a number of mergers and acquisitions. Wachovia''s management was confident that the expansion strategies would facilitate future growth of the bank. Some analysts however, were skeptical about the success of Wachovia''s expansion strategies. But others speculated about a merger of Wachovia with another bank, which would elevate its position to the second largest bank in the United States. The case helps in understanding the formation of Wachovia and the expansion strategies followed by the bank. The case also provides scope to discuss the rationale behind Wachovia''s expansion strategies.
