Abstract
Zainab is at a company retreat with her colleagues. She is asthmatic. As her group settles down to have a meeting, they realise the room is stuffy. Everyone is uncomfortable but no one (including Zainab) clearly complains about the situation or suggests a solution. Eventually, Zainab becomes ill and they all blame the team leader. This case teaches effectively the causes, symptoms and effects of the Abilene paradox - a major source of team dysfunction.
