Abstract

This supporting video is to accompany the case. Conflicts are a very common occurrence in the work place. Among the many reasons that lead to conflicts and one of the less-emphasised reasons, is stress in the personal lives of employees. Stressors from personal lives often make employees irritable, stressed and hostile to one another, sometimes leading to conflicts. Research literature provides five different conflict resolution styles: (1) compromising; (2) accommodating or obliging; (3) dominating or competing; (4) avoiding; and (5) integrative or collaborative. The conflict resolution style that is most preferred and yet least used is the integrative or collaborative conflict resolution style. This case study provides an example of the integrative conflict resolution style. The case study also highlights the manager's role and the importance of social support in reducing the stress levels of employees.
