Abstract
This case focuses on the challenges faced by the managers of a growing conservation nonprofit who are striving to make strategic use of the Internet. Well beyond simply posting static "brochureware" on the World Wide Web, these managers are working to serve several types of users: internal users, who need intranet applications to coordinate the operations of diverse departments and regional offices; an extended group of members and affiliated organizations who have specific needs for password-protected information and education service applications (i.e., extranet applications); and the general public, who come to the organization''s site for information and services (i.e., Internet applications). The case examines how selected uses of information technology tools, in conjunction with more traditional means of collaboration and communication, can be of critical importance in enabling the organization to pursue its mission.
