St Michael''s Hospital examines the merger of two hospitals, their medical staff and more importantly the merger of the boards of directors of the former Wellesley Hospital (a secular hospital) with St Michael''s Hospital (a religious hospital owned by the Sisters of St Joseph). Key integration questions include: (1) the purpose of board member selection; (2) accountability; (3) responsiveness to competing stakeholder groups; and (4) leadership.
