Abstract

When an organization dedicated to the scientific task for identifying and cataloguing the flora and fauna of Bolivia finds that its funding for that mission has dried up, it faces a crucial decision. The executive director and board of directors of Bolivia''s Conservation Data Center just decide whether simply to go out of business, to merge with a similar but somewhat broader organization, or to try to identify new markets which would build on its valuable existing data bank. The task is complicated by a moribund board of directors. Written with support from the Agency for International Development and The Nature Conservancy.
