Abstract
The trial in France of Lebanese national Georges Abdallah, accused in the murder of an American diplomat, forces the US Justice Department to consider strategies aimed at ensuring conviction and a prison term while having to work through the complexities of a foreign legal system. Knowing that politics might dictate the accused terrorist's release, US officials seek a strategy that will serve their ends and not offend the French.
