This is the first of a two-case series (405-013-1 and 405-014-1). This case examines the entry into China of a popular French retailer. The focus is mostly on the leader/entrepreneur, who must figure out cultural differences and establish a new operation in a foreign land. Strategic issues are in the background. The case series aims to explore local (intra-European) cultural differences and how they impact the operations of a new enterprise.
