Abstract

This is part of a case series. Tobori Agada left his banking job in order to pursue more lucrative opportunities through self-employment. He set up a company - Togada Nigeria Limited - which grew from an initial focus on transport to also participate in the construction industry. Agada was presented with a profitable contract opportunity through a friend, but was asked by the same friend to inflate the cost of the job and give him the difference in price in order to secure both this and future contracts. The purpose of this case is to help participants share their experiences and insights in relation to the issue of questionable payments, a serious issue in the context of Nigeria, a developing country, and the impact this has on productive and ethical business practices. This is part A of a two part case.
