Abstract

The case is about the implementation of lean manufacturing at a Hungarian owned automotive supplier, Raba Automotive Components Manufacturing Ltd. After years of poor business performance a new CEO with invaluable lean transformation experience started at the company in 2006 - as part of a general restructuring process. The results of the changes, eg, dramatically increased productivity, more competitive prices, profit etc, reveal a successful transformation. In this case a short description of the general process of lean introduction on the shop floor, and then focus on one of the most affected areas - the sewing plant, are given. Raba''s lean journey''s example highlights the importance of management commitment, company level two way communication, the role of lean experts, lean projects agenda and introduction plans.
