Abstract

This is part of a series of six cases covering the United Nations Joint Logistics Centre (UNJLC). This case covers the institutionalisation process as well as the evolution in scope of the United Nations Joint Logistics Centre (UNJLC). It describes the relationship between the facility and the stakeholders namely the donor community, the host institution (WFP) and humanitarian organisations within and outside the UN (United Nations) system. This case describes the main events and issues related to the facility's acceptance process. It allows students: (1) to appreciate the difficulties of institutionalising a new mechanism in the complex and pluri-actor humanitarian community; (2) to discuss the role, trait and contribution of the originator of the concept; and (3) and to discover the tactics used to legitimise and ensure acceptance of an innovative concept that goes beyond the boundaries of a single organisation even though it entails the involvement of a diverse set of stakeholders.
