Abstract

This case is a revised edition and replacement for 'One Money and Fifteen States' (399-039-1). The case describes the history of repeated attempts at monetary union, and provides an overview of the various motivations and initiatives taken since the relaunch of EU integration in the mid-1980s, the events surrounding the Maastricht Treaty, and the turbulent years since then. The aim of the case is to provide a predictive analysis of what will happen, and the possible impact on firms. The case may also be used to weigh the pros and cons of monetary union, from political, economic and business perspectives.
