Abstract
The case recounts the transformation of the IT strategy of Unisys from the arrival of the new Chairman and CEO as well as the new CIO in 1997 till 2004. It discusses mainly how the IT governance has been evolving, and how IT investment decisions - from very large ones to smaller ones - have been taken through these years in order to transform the IT of Unisys. The IT strategy and investment decisions processes today are contrasted with those before 1997 also showing how IT management has been changing in line with the changes of Unisys'' strategy and organisation. The case can be used in MBA or executive education classes to discuss some or all of the following issues: (1) how to make IT investement decisions in organisations; (2) the various forms of IT governance in organisations; and (3) how an organisation can transform its IT strategy.
