Published by: Harvard Business Publishing
Published in: 2008
Length: 28 pages

Abstract

To insular leaders, human rights in general are less important than the rights, and even the needs and wants, of their specific constituencies. This chapter discusses the consequences of insular leadership using former President Bill Clinton's failure to intervene in the Rwanda genocide as a case in point. The author's analysis of the situation points out mistakes Clinton made and why those mistakes were so costly. This chapter is excerpted from ‘Bad Leadership: What It Is, How It Happens, Why It Matters'.
