Abstract
This case describes an audit of an international R&D department of a large international specialty chemicals company. The productivity of R&D has gone down dramatically and the audit reveals problems in several areas: mission of R&D, product portfolio, communication, integration with other functions and leadership. This case can be used as an introduction to a lecture on R&D Management for an audience of general managers.
