Abstract
The Chairman of the Bangchaek Thai Group is overwhelmed by the dramatic news propagated in the media about the region and its future. A very pessimistic assessment of the region is given, both by the press and television in the Asia Pacific region and by the international media. Stunned by the universally black picture that emerges, Worawut, the Chairman does not know where, or how, to find glimpses of optimism to pass on to his managers and workers, and is quite desperate. The case is a good introduction to the Asian crisis, and a way to launch a debate on the causes of the crisis. Was the basis of the economic boom very shaky? Can recovery come from the same recipe? Is the whole model up for ''reconsideration''?
