Abstract
This case chronicles the history of the semiconductor industry, the rise to dominance of Intel, the history of Motorola and its competitive position in microprocessors and the AIM Alliance in 1996. The case allows one to illustrate: (1) industry dynamics in a high technology industry; (2) the importance and practice of supply chain management and vertical integration; and (3) the options of a firm which loses a standards battle.
