Abstract
San Jose Hospital had considerably increased its capacity from 2002 to 2003. The information systems that held patients'', suppliers, staff and business processes, such as payroll, billing, buying, warehouse, accounting and hospital programming had not evolved to respond effectively to the growing volume of work. Dieck, Hospital Director, asked the IT Director, Jesus Diaz, to work on a proposal that would better the conditions in which the hospital was run. Based on the information he had, since he was an executive there, Diaz thought that the adoption of a technological platform which would be capable of all the hospital''s processes would put him in a privileged position in the arena where he competed.
