Abstract
The case describes Whirlpool's decision to enter India via a joint venture with an Indian partner to produce washing machines for the nascent local home appliance market. Supplier and marketing problems lead to financial difficulties at the JV and Whirlpool finally decides to take control. It must then transform the plant into a world class operation. It can be used in conjunction with the case 'TWL : Pondicherry Plant' .
