Abstract
First established in Sweden, Electrolux is one of the largest household electrical appliance companies in the world with a wide range of products. With over 10 years of development in the China market, Electrolux has become one of the largest foreign-funded enterprises in the country''s household electrical appliances segment. From 2003 to 2005, Electrolux China saw four different presidents come and go. After the Spring Festival of 2006, another new President was appointed, her name is Chialing Hsieh, a Taiwanese lady once in the position of the General Manager of the black appliance business of Philips (China). Talking about her successful career, Chialing said that she has experienced great success and still wonders herself why, a woman with a literature background, finally decided to take up a managerial role in enterprises. Maybe the most important point is that she''s willing to take on challenges, and this is one of the reasons why she joined Electrolux, when it was experiencing difficulties. This case discusses the challenges she met in: (1) enterprise transformation; (2) management style; and (3) business culture in China.
